City Church is one of the fastest-growing churches in America, but their website wasn't keeping up. We built a custom Webflow site that finally reflects who they are, helps people get plugged in, and is built to be found on Google and AI search.

City Church For the City website, designed and developed by Sunday Best

Project Overview

City Church is a diverse, multi-ethnic church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and God is doing something special there. They baptized over 500 people in 2025, were recognized by Outreach as one of the fastest-growing churches in America, and moved to three Sunday services to make room for everyone walking through the doors.

‍

But their website wasn't keeping up with the growth of their church.

‍

The Challenge

City Church's website was built for a younger, smaller version of the church. The people, the stories, and the life change happening every Sunday weren't showing up online. A first-time guest visiting the old site would never have guessed how diverse, alive, and fast-growing this church really is.

‍

Here's what was holding the old site back:

  • It didn't reflect the church. The site lacked strong photography and clear, engaging copy, so it didn't capture the energy and diversity of City Church.
  • Important pages were missing. There was no clear place for someone to take a step of faith, get baptized, or find care.
  • It was hard to find online. The site wasn't set up with good SEO or AEO (answer engine optimization), so it wasn't helping people searching Google or AI tools find the church.
  • It was hard to use. It ran on a Squarespace template the team couldn't change, and it was difficult to navigate on a phone.
  • It was hard to manage. With no creative director on staff during the project, the team needed a site they could update on their own.

‍

With a capital campaign on the horizon, City Church needed a website that matched who they've become and helped more people get connected.

‍

Our Approach

We started where every Sunday Best project starts: strategy. After a kickoff call with the City Church team, we built a sitemap and wireframes that organized the site around the people visiting it, especially guests and people who are new to faith. From there we designed the homepage and every sub page, wrote and refined copy alongside their team, and built the site on Webflow with a content management system they can update without a developer.

What We Built

A homepage that tells their story

The new homepage leads with City Church's identity, "Diverse. Devoted. Disciples.", backed by photos and video of real people from their church. Service times and two clear buttons, Plan Your Visit and Watch Livestream, sit right up front. The livestream button only appears on Sunday mornings when services are streaming. Just below, a short welcome tells guests they don't have to know much about God, the Bible, or the Christian faith to belong.

Clear ways to get plugged in

A "Find Your Place" section gives every visitor three simple next steps: visit on Sunday, join a group, or serve on a team. We connected these buttons, along with forms across the site, directly to City Church's Planning Center Church Center, so getting plugged in takes a click instead of a phone call.

‍

New pages for every next step

We added the pages the old site was missing: Follow Jesus, Baptism, and Care. Now when someone is ready to say yes to Jesus, get baptized, or ask for help, there's a clear place to go.

‍

A campaign page for OVERFLOW

OVERFLOW is City Church's two-year initiative to make room for more people to meet Jesus. The plan includes renovating nearly 15,000 square feet of unfinished space, adding classrooms for up to 150 more kids each Sunday, expanding parking, and a stretch goal of opening an outreach center in their neighborhood.

‍

A capital campaign asks a lot of a congregation, so we built a dedicated OVERFLOW page that walks people through the whole vision in one place:

  • The why: a personal note from Pastor Chris, a vision video, and story videos from people whose lives have been changed at City Church
  • The plan: each project explained with renderings, from the new overflow venue and kids spaces to the parking lot and outreach center
  • The goal: clear financial goals, plus a short explainer on their One Fund approach to giving
  • The next step: a simple pray, commit, give call to action, connected to a Planning Center commitment form
  • The questions: campaign messages, a downloadable prayer guide, and FAQs that answer the hard questions, like whether the church is taking on debt

‍

The homepage also features OVERFLOW, so everyone visiting the site sees what God is doing next at City Church.

A Plan Your Visit page that answers the hard questions

Walking into a new church can be intimidating. The Plan Your Visit page walks guests through what Sunday looks like (a casual atmosphere, powerful worship, relevant teaching from the Bible, and a place for the whole family) and answers common questions before anyone has to ask. Parents can even pre-register their kids before they arrive.

A kids page built for parents

The City Kids page speaks directly to parents. It explains how City Kids partners with families, then answers the questions parents care about most, like what happens during the service and how their kids are kept safe.

Messages that stay up to date

The homepage automatically features the latest message, followed by the four before it, pulled straight from the site's CMS. New messages show up everywhere the moment they're published.

Built to be found

We built every page with SEO and AEO best practices, so City Church is easier to find on Google and in AI search tools like ChatGPT. That includes:

  • Schema markup that helps search engines and AI tools understand who City Church is and what it offers
  • An LLMs.txt file that gives AI assistants a clear, accurate summary of the church and its website
  • Custom page titles, descriptions, and share images for every page
  • A clear heading structure and more helpful content, including FAQ sections that answer the questions people are actually asking
  • Redirects for every old link, so nothing broke at launch, from bookmarked pages to URLs printed on old flyers

‍

The Impact

City Church's new website launched on November 3, 2026. For the first time, their website truly reflects who they are: a diverse, growing church where people are meeting Jesus and getting baptized every week.

‍

More importantly, it helps people get plugged in. Guests have a clear path from their first click to their first Sunday. People ready for a next step can join a group, serve, or sign up for baptism in a few clicks. And with SEO and AEO built in from the start, more people in Fort Wayne will be able to find City Church online. Their team can keep it all up to date on their own using the website handbook we created for them.

‍

"You guys did such an incredible job. I can't say thank you enough for your incredible flexibility. You went above and beyond to make it such a great experience. I will be glad to recommend you to other churches because it was fantastic."
- Sarah Hooley, Executive Pastor at City Church

‍

Conclusion

City Church is reaching its city in a powerful way, and now its website matches that growth. Their new site tells their story, helps people take their next step, and is ready to grow with them.
